!Minecraft Diamond Finding Tut!

The images above correspond to what’s written as follows;

Before you ask, I’m using “width x height”

~And read it all, because it all interlinks!

Image 1 (The Minning Technique): Shows how the most efficient diamond branch mine can be created. The main shaft (red) is a 3x3 tunnel, that acts as your main access route for all the probes (branches) which are 1x2 tunnels (orange). This idea or method is called Branch Mining (My reason or having a large main tunnel is so you don’t get lost in 1x2 tunnels!)

Between each branch you leave 3 blocks. (branch, block, block, block, branch…). The reason for this is because ores always spawn in clumps (The blue blocks are showing how diamond usually spawns in clumps of 3, and how it is then hit by your branches).

When I say its the most efficient, I’m meaning you can remove 1000 blocks like this with a chance of hitting 20-50 diamonds AS OPPOSED to moving 1000 blocks in a square room, which if you are lucky would only yield about 4-20 diamonds.

Image 2 (Depths and Logic #1): The first graph shows a simplistic version to how the Minecraft world is created. Using F3 in game, you can determine your Y coordinate, which is the depth of the player.

Y=64 is ALWAYS the block ABOVE the sea (water for the sea is on block 63 or Y=63)
Y=16 (block 16) and below always has the most diamonds within (there is virtually no diamonds between Y=16-18)
Y=11 (block 11) is ALWAYS where lava begins to spawn in all open air spaces (caves and such, block 11 or Y=11 and below are always filled with lava)

Also, note the comment on image 2 about player depth relativity!

Image 3 (Depths and Logic #2): This is basically a visual game representation of what all the above regards.

(Y=16) Block 16 and below = Diamond level entered.
(Y=12,13(14)) Block 12, 13 (and 14 in main shafts) is the blocks you want to dig your branches & shafts on
(Y=11) Block 11 and below = Lava in all air spaces (ie: caves)
(Y=5) Block 5 and below = Bedrock begins depths
(Y=1) Below Block 1 = Void

SUMMARY:

• Diamonds found on and below block 16.
• Lava is always on block 11, so if you are on Y=12, you almost* never hit lava and can dig lines without having to hit lava and deal with it.
• *random pockets of lava can still be hit however (the kind that you find randomly within the world, regardless of heights)
• Dig you branches 1x2 and spaced 3 blocks apart to make them efficient (save time on digging)
• Don’t get lost in your tunnels, have a main shaft that is noticeable!
• Tip on branches: I dig each one 100 blocks long.
• YOU CAN DO BRANCHES ON EACH SIDE OF YOUR MAIN SHAFT! :D

• Question: Random minecraft-related question for you: You don't happen to know if the technic pack requires a new world spawn do you? Or can you install it and all the ores etc will just be generated from then on in unexplored areas? - pookagehayes
• Answer:

  you can install it and the ores will start generating but only in areas far away from what you’ve already explored. Ie chunks that haven’t actually been rendered yet. I would SUGGEST starting a new world if you’ve already explored a relatively large amount or else you’re going to have to travel a lot before you start finding anything like oil or new ores.
